January Virtual PDM | Strategic Global Risk Analysis in the Sourcing Process

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join us for a presentation by Mr. Forrest Walker, CPSM, CPSD, and Lifetime C.P.M. on Strategic Global Risk Analysis in the Sourcing Process.

In today’s business arena, a lean forward mindset is required to better engage and counter global risk management issues. Implementing a lasting strategic global risk management platform means that procurement staff needs to be prepared for the constant changes ahead. This demands that we, as procurement professionals, become uniquely aware of and very flexible when approaching risk in the global marketplace, as we secure the materials needed by the business.

Purchasing professionals who are sourcing in today’s global marketplace are dealing with more frequent changes in our world, which can create greater risks for the business efforts we are asked to address. This means procurement must morph into a net provider of risk information. This requires an open and receptive conduit within the business to receive the flow of data that procurement will provide.

In time, businesses will begin to secure more globally-minded team members to best interpret company-wide data points, plot any course correction, and/or confirm the stability of the current course for the business. Procurement is the point of the spear in such advanced risk management initiatives. Our roles in procurement will not only require materials, but providing data on trending will be required as well.

During the presentation, we will review a few global risk management strategies that will help you to identify and model best practices to reduce risk and likewise create opportunity for your business:

  • Proactive vs. reactive styles of risk management

  • Current events and global calendar awareness

  • Disruptive technology deployment and adoption

  • Alignment with global standards – alignment with the world

  • Micro and macro risk management protocols

At the end of this presentation, you will have firm ideas as to what to review and how to assess the risk management needs (related to procurement) of the business you support. You will better understand those areas of review and data point collection that you will need to start routinely reviewing.

When looking at your supply base, you will be better prepared to proactively address what your sub-suppliers are doing to control risk while gaining awareness on how to train your suppliers to control risk.

October In-Person PDM | How to Rule the High-Tech World

ASCM and SME Tampa Bay invite you to join us for a presentation by Thomas Borkes, a mechanical engineering professional with over 35 years of technical and manufacturing experience, on Tuesday, October 11th about adding important tools to your high-tech toolbox.

**This will be a joint meeting with SME Tampa Bay, Florida Suncoast Chapter 159 of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

The associated learning for earning skills is barely touched on in traditional post-secondary Bachelor of Science engineering programs. Instead, the focus has been almost exclusively on teaching students learning to solve the problems at the end of the chapter.

This presentation will provide the role of emerging, leading-edge technologies for circuit boards and higher-level assemblies. You will learn about:

  • 3-D Printing

  • Digital Twinning

  • Factory 4.0 (Meta Process Control)

  • Artificial Intelligence, Virtual & Augmented Reality

  • Supply Chain Management (horizontal vs. vertical integration)

  • Extreme Robotics & Automation

And finally, a real-world example of Designing for Automation (DFA) will be provided.

Virtually ignored are critical thinking, open-form problem solving (i.e., more unknowns than equations), and the other skills needed for success in the globally competitive real world. These educational programs are addressed, and potential methods to close this academic-to-real world gap are provided.

September PDM | Jabil Manufacturing Tour

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join us for a manufacturing tour of Jabil's Strategic Development facility on Thursday, September 15th.

Jabil's unique strategic development facility on 16th street services just one customer - Smart Wires.

Smart Wires’ patented modular and scalable solutions—used by utilities across North America, Europe, Australia and Latin America—enable utilities to pinpoint power demand and move energy sources where needed for efficient balance of power delivery from the transmission grid. These solutions unlock gigawatts of new capacity on the existing grid by intelligently routing power to underutilized power lines.

In Jabil, Smart Wires found a global supply chain partner second to none. It’s a good thing because Smart Wires’ solutions are complex, drawing from power systems, semiconductors, cybersecurity and civil and structural engineering, among other disciplines. They also vary in size from tiny products on wires to very large systems.

Jabil has an impressive comfort level with product and system complexity, building everything from thermostat components to large wind turbines and huge lithium-ion storage containers. The company’s procurement team is equally adept at handling electromechanical and custom mechanical supply chain demands. This proved essential in sourcing components for Smart Wires’ products, which comprise up to 95% custom electromechanical designs

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join James S. Moore, CSCP, PMP, CCMC, and Director of Operations for Cardio Command, Inc, for a presentation on transitioning to remote work on Tuesday, August 16th.

If you’re new to remote work, you may feel nervous about suddenly transitioning from your workplace to your home. However, many employees thrive in these flexible arrangements, and you can learn how to thrive while working from home.

Remote work has increased by 140% since 2005. According to Global Workplace Analytics, more than 4.3 million Americans work from home at least 50% of the time. As of April 2020,due to precautions taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, the numbers in these statistics have significantly increased.

During this presentation, we will discuss work-from-home strategies that will help you to:

  • Develop new routines

  • Communicate with your team

  • Be proud of how hard you work from home

You may be in for a pleasant surprise if you’ve suddenly transitioned to remote work. Studies also suggest that remote workers are just as happy, engaged, and productive as those who commute daily. You can do your job without going to the office daily by quickly adapting to working from home. Join us for “How to Make a Sudden Transition to Remote Work” and learn how.

April Virtual PDM | Supply Chain Mimics Life

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join John Melbye, DDPP, DDLP, CSCP for a presentation on how we can compare supply chain to our everyday lives.

Why are we struggling with so much chaos in our inventory management systems and in our businesses? We’ve been using the same tools for 40 years, certainly we should have them working well by now, shouldn’t we?

We talk about improving Visibility. We talk about process improvement.  We talk about perspective.  We talk about Smart Metrics. Yet, we seem to be facing the same chaotic situations. And though we might see some changes, are we actually improving?

John Melbye is introducing a series called “Edutainment by Entertrainers”, which is built on the audience's thoughts and answers as we try to understand the seemingly obvious answers to the increasingly urgent questions. We’ll ask the questions: “What is visibility?”, “Are we approaching our problems correctly?”, “What is the best way to achieve success?” And though the topics and questions are serious, we’ll have fun finding the answer together.

Come ready to think, participate, and perhaps expand your understanding.

In this unique event, your participation and input is required as we build scenarios through Metaphor and Analogy to review our thinking and confirm (or rethink) our solutions.

January Virtual PDM | Managing Supply Chain Risk

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join Peter J Blok, a certified APICS instructor and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, for a presentation discussing Supply Chain Risk Management on Tuesday, January 11th.

The COVID-19 disaster has put supply chains on the front page of every newspaper in the world. The availability of everything from toilet tissue to holiday gifts seems to have been compromised. While this is the latest and perhaps most dramatic illustration of supply chain vulnerabilities it's certainly not unique. Since biblical times supply chains have had disruptions, and some of those disruptions have had disastrous consequences.

As supply chain professionals, we tend to deal with minor disruptions in stride, handling them as part of our daily jobs. As supply chains have become global, their vulnerabilities have increased and have become increasingly difficult to identify and mitigate.

This presentation will discuss some of the tools and techniques you can use to preemptively identify potential risk factors. We'll also discuss some of the processes you can establish and maintain to help minimize the impact of disruptions.

This presentation takes the position that risk preparedness and response is a company-wide team effort. While supply chain professionals should take a leadership role, almost every other operating department has a role to play in risk management. We'll discuss some of the major players and how you can recruit them for your preparedness efforts.

ASCM Tampa Bay | November Virtual PDM

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join Chris Barnes, a recognized thought leader within the Supply Chain Industry, for a presentation with low-hanging fruit ideas on warehouse organization on Tuesday, November 9th.

When you were little, or maybe not so little, did you ever discover nickels, dimes or quarters under the couch cushions? Or maybe you recently got out the winter coat and found a ten-dollar bill in the pocket. Either way you were a bit excited and proud of your serendipitous endeavors. Making small changes in the warehouse can be similar to finding quarters in the couch.

Chris has been helping companies improve their warehouse operations for over 20 years. In his current role as solutions consultant for HighJump, he is in a unique position to frequently visit companies and make recommendations on how they can improve their warehouse performance. On his visits, the companies are generally interested in the benefits provided by a warehouse management system or WMS.  However, he frequently observes fundamental process improvements they could make that will help them improve performance with simple changes.  Many times, these changes should be made even if the customers decide not to implement technology.

After these visits, Chris provides the customer with ideas or Low Hanging Fruit changes they can make to improve their operations. This session is an overview summary of some of the improvement opportunities he typically sees.

Virtual PDM | Introducing Micro-Learning "Inventory Accuracy"

ASCM Tampa Bay invites you to join Jerry Kilty, creator of consulting company Quality Management Solutions Inc, for a micro-learning presentation about Inventory Accuracy on Tuesday, October 5th.

A Note from Jerry:

I started instructing the APICS certification material just after starting my consulting company, Quality Management Solutions, Inc. in 1993.You might say I have done my professional career backwards having spent the first 30 years as a practioner and now the last 30 years as an instructor. However, this experience has certainly helped me as an instructor.

When COVID hit I decided to pivot to "snack size" courses. This became a bigger undertaking than I realized, but I have stayed on task and am getting close to the finish line.

I am anxious to share with you in this presentation my vision and education strategy that explains Micro-Learning.

Next you will be led through one of my courses, "Inventory Accuracy." This will be delivered live and virtually so ask your questions. This alone is a $40 value.

Finally, I will present my new web site and explain how to navigate and buy courses from it. I will also provide discounts for being an ASCM member.

Virtual PDM | Thriving Through Changes

change.jpg

APICS Tampa Bay invites you to join Jacquelynn Peterson, a personal development coach and thought leader, for a presentation discussing thriving through change in the workplace on Tuesday, April 6th, at 6pm.

You have worked hard to get to where you are in your career. And just when you start to feel confident in your role, new system and process changes come down the pipeline to change the parameters through which you contribute value to your organization. What will that mean for your job security…your identity…and your overall sense of value and contribution? Your team is already short-staffed and “doing more with less.” Where will you find the time to learn yet another skill AND support yet another process? Or what if you have a clear plan for next steps in your career but “life happens” and suddenly you are no longer clear on what direction your life should be headed?

Now more than ever, the only certainty is that change is INEVITABLE. Our SURVIVAL and ability to THRIVE, both as an individual and as a society, even depends on it. Change is not always easy, but with the right mindset, it can be the best catalyst for your greatest growth, expansion, joy, and prosperity.

Master the mental game so you can navigate and facilitate changes in your workplace and life. You will learn 3 simple strategies in this workshop to thrive through changes so you can powerfully contribute value in an ever- evolving world, have a thriving career, and be indispensable, regardless of your age, gender, experience level, or aspirations.
